Pine Bunk Bed

With the increasing popularity and demand for bunk beds, more and more types are now being made available. One can choose from metal ones and wooden ones. There are just so many options for wood bunk beds. One of which is the pine bunk bed.

Maximizing bedroom space can have so much benefit using a pine bunk bed. As a material for building any piece of furniture, pine’s aesthetic quality is undoubtable. Aside from being inexpensive, pine gives any interior a definite character. Aside from making any room look good, having pine furniture gives that feel of walking through the woods because of the scent it has. But despite all these appreciable qualities that pine has, there are certain things about it that can be worrying.

It is important to note that pine keeps on “breathing” based on the temperature and humidity of the place where it is. Also, it is a naturally soft wood. It has natural irregularities that may not allow it to last for a very long time. If one chooses to have any piece of furniture made from pine wood, taking good care of it is the key to its longevity.

Just like any other wood, pine is a natural product; when subjected to heat, it shrinks and may crack, and when subjected to damp may expand. Since it is susceptible to changes in temperature, it is highly recommended that any pine furniture be placed in a room where even temperature is maintained without sudden fluctuations. In relation to temperature, directly putting items that are hot or cold on surface can also have a bad effect on the pine furniture. Hot or cold stuff placed directly on the surface of pine furniture can leave an ugly mark on it. Using water when especially with soap or any kind of detergent is definitely a big no for pine furniture. A duster or a damp cloth will do for a general cleaning.

Maintaining the character of the furniture is another thing. It may require re-treating from time to time. For doing this, make sure that you are not using aerosol prays or silicon-containing polish for this will affect the finish and the natural stain on the furniture because it reacts to most man-made products. Rubbing an unperfumed block wax would be the best option. The furniture may be slightly waxier upon application of the product but this is normal. When using the block wax, following the manufacturer’s instructions is of course a must. Tightening fittings will also be necessary from time to time so carrying regular inspections is a smart thing to do. This is highly recommended for a pine bunk bed since a lot of weight is repeatedly put on it.

If you want your pine bunk beds and other pine furniture to last for a long time, knowing its nature (say for instance its softness in quality and its tendency to expand or shrink upon exposure to temperature changes) and taking time and a little effort to take good care of it is the secret to keeping it fine.
