Toddler Bunk Beds

Bunk beds are becoming more and more popular as time passes by, and with that increase in popularity comes increase in the variety of options one can choose form. While most bunk beds are typically designed for playful and imaginative kids who won’t stop being hyper active even at bedtime, there are also bunk beds designed for toddlers. Yup! Toddler bunk beds.

Once children start learning how to walk, they are usually not called ‘babies’ anymore; they are then known as toddlers. Although the term is usually applicable to children aged one to two, ‘toddlerhood’ does not particularly refer to a specific age; it is more of a stage in a developing child’s life. This stage is characterized by the child’s desire to explore his surroundings. This means that a toddler can be extremely mobile; he can walk, talk, run, and climb. Importantly, since toddlers are still in a significant stage of development, they do not yet have total control over their movements.

In this point and time, sleep is essential for any growing child’s development. Choosing the right bed for a child is not an easy task. While a crib will be best for toddlers, most parents would choose to buy a bed which their children can grow with, and which their family can grow with (talk about having a new baby in the family). It is indeed more practical to buy a bed which can last for a long time and which can be used by the child as he grows up. In this case, bunk beds can be the answer.

But on top of being practical, the safety of the child is one important thing to consider in choosing which bed would be best. There have been a lot of reports regarding safety issues of having bunk beds for kids. Kids can be really playful and most of the time they can just be very unruly. Falling off from the top bunk of a bunk bed, whether one is awake or asleep, happens most of the time. It is not uncommon. And although safety may come with age, in terms of using bunk beds, there are also reported cases that even grown ups accidentally fall from the top bunk. That being said, getting toddler bunk beds for growing children does not seem to be a very good idea at all if parents are deeply concerned about the safety of their children.

As bunk beds continue to boom, manufacturers also continue to come up with new designs that can lessen the risks of having accidents. Stairway bunk beds are said to be better because they have staircases instead of ladders that have spaces in between every step. The guard rails of newer bunk beds are more secure because of the vertical rails added to the horizontal rails, thus promising that the one who sleeps on top will not slip through. However, toddlers, being the explorers that they are, can just climb on the top bunk, on the guard rail, and then choose to jump off or just accidentally fall.

Toddler bunk beds are not like cribs where any toddler can be safe when left alone. Since bunk beds are considered by most children as a play place, any parent who chooses to have a toddler bunk bed for the little ones would have to keep an eye on the child at all times. If a parent chooses to be practical by having a bed which can grow with the child, safety is not something that has to be sacrificed.  Check out Bunk Bed Mattresses.
